The Sligo Champion

Date set for Coney Run

-

THE Mick Walton Memorial Perpetual Cup is back and is taking place on Saturday.

The 2017 Coney Island Challenge will be held this year on Saturday, October 21st at 1 pm from Sligo Rugby Club in Strandhill.

Organisers say it may well be one of the most exciting and challenging events in the local running calendar and has something for all abilities from a 10K Walk to a 10 Mile run.

Those who are up to the challenge will share some great prizes and the first 300 will receive a commemorative t-shirt. Interest has been high in this year’s event and early booking is advised as there will be a cap of 500 athletes for this year’s event. Online registration is now open for the Coney Island Challenge Races at www.coneyislandchallenge.net

Entry fee is €20. For more information contact Tony Heath at 0872439445 or Harry Nairn at 086-8966691. All proceeds of the race go to the restoration and upkeep of St Anne’s Church Strandhill and other charities. The 10k run and walk start at Sligo Rugby Club, go about 300 metres and turn left just past Sonny Bree’s pub. The route then then goes down the lane, onto the strand, past Doon Patrick Island and onto Coney Island following the same route as the 10 mile run to the back of the island as far as Carter’s Beach and then back the same way. The 10 mile run is the same as last year. It goes along the Strandhill–Sligo road, down Coney Lane, across the causeway, onto the island and over to Carter’s Beach and then back the same way.
