Ballymote team reach semi final

BALLYMOTE AR Bowling Club had two teams in action in the large bowls section of the National Bowls Competitio­n held at the Gleneagle Hotel complex in Killarney.

There were over 270 competitor­s at the event with 36 teams from all over the country competing in the Large Bowls section in which the Ballymote teams were taking part.

The Ballymote Knights (Sharon Amber, Andrew Allcock, Jeff Amber & Terry Wetherald) reached the Cup semi-final for the second year running.

In the first round league section their results were: beat Carnaross A by 11 points to 4, beat Loughrea Denver City by 14 points to 2, beat Cooley 1 by 8 points to 7.

In the second round league section their results were: beat Mountbelle­w Ambers by 7 points to 5, beat Beaufort Hobbits by 10 points to 4, beat Loughrea Lakers by 10 points to 4.

In the Quarter-Final they beat Fossa Eagles by 15 points to 9.

In the Semi-Final they were unfortunat­ely beaten by Kilorglin A by 8 points to 5.

In the first round league section The Ballymote Damsels (Sarah Jinks, Doreen Lavin, Joan Watson & Maureen Sheridan) results were: lost to Beaufort Siogs by 10 points to 2, beat Carnaross B by 7 points to 3, beat Carrowtwoh­ill 2 by 5 points to 4.

This qualified them for the Plate Competitio­n, in which their results were: lost to Kilcurry Blues by 6 points to 5, lost to Carnaross A by 7 points to 5 and lost to Kenmere Eagles by 7 points to 1.
