Funding ‘will support improved amenities’

-

The €80,000 received by Ballymote under the Town and Village Renewal Scheme 2017 will go towards improving amenities in the area.

Leas Cathoirleach Councillor Dara Mulvey says the funding is extremely welcome, and will be used for a number of different things.

“This much needed funding will support amenities such as a tourist information point at the Art Deco Theatre building, enterprise supports, heritage supports and repair and resurfacing works in the town park,” he said.

The 2017 Town and Village Renewal Scheme, which was launched in April this year, focuses on projects which can help to enhance and develop rural towns and villages.

Councillor Mulvey complimented Sligo County Council’s community and enterprise department for their work on helping to secure the vital funding of €1,063,968 for County Sligo which will help to support projects in towns and villages across the county - a much welcome boost for the county.

In Sligo, €1,063,968 was allocated to 14 towns and villages, including €196,000 for Coolaney, €60,000 for Ballisodare, €80,000 Ballymote, €100,000 €Tubbercurry, €77,600 Carney, €80,000 Strandhill and Ransboro, €80,000 Easkey €76,000 for Carraroe and € 80,000 Rosses Point.

In total 281 rural towns and villages across the country are set to benefit from over €21 million in funding under the 2017 Town and Village Renewal Scheme.
