New car park at Stonepark
Ballymote Community Parks Committee has gotten the green light for a major new car park.
The development will feature 104 car parking spaces, three bus parking spaces and three mini-bus parking spaces with a new entrance on the land adjoining the playing fields at Stonepark Townland.
A low entrance gate and fence will be erected along the front of the site to prevent unauthorised parking inside.
The land is owned by Ms Eileen Chase but the committee have an option to buy the site subject to receipt of planning permission.
The car park will be Phase 1 and as funds become available in the future, Ballymote Parks Committee shall lodge additional planning applications for each element.
County Planners attached several conditions, including that a 2 meter wide footpath be built from the existing public footpath at the entrance to the community park to the car park entrance.
Public lighting must be provided along the newly extended footpath, as well as landscaping and planting.
The Committee will also have to hire an archaeologist to carry out pre-development testing at the site to ensure the preservation of any objects of archaeological interest at the site.
No works can start until this testing is complete.
