India Fest brings ‘Bollywood’ glamour in aid of Hospice
BOLLYWOOD came to Sligo last weekend at a spectacular performance of Indian music,dance and culture.
India Fest ‘17 at IT Sligo, had ‘Integration by Music’ as its theme, with proceeds in aid of North West Hospice.
Over ¤6,000 was raised for the hospice on the night.
The variety show brought some of the Indian classical dance, folk dance and Bollywood dance, live Indian band and Kalarippayattu (Martial Art from Kerala) fusion with music.
The Renowned Indian Band’ Soul Beats’ were joined by award winning dancers’ Mudra’ in the Knocknarea Arena at IT Sligo.
Event Co-ordinator George Chadda urged guests to let other Indian associations know about “this great opportunity to share the culture, tradition and unity in diversity.”
The program was open to all communities.
Separately, the Hindu and Sikh Festival of Light, Diwali, was marked at Sligo Tennis Club last Friday and a documentary named ‘Diwali lights’ was broadcast on RTE1 at 5.45pm last Saturday.
This is the third time Diwali celebrations from the Indian association of Sligo have appeared on national television.
