Sligo RFC take on Corrib

A physically big Corrib U17 side took the spoils over the weekend against an understren­gth Sligo team. The home side lead 17-12 at the half-time whistle, with tries from Luke Hogg and Max King, but indiscipli­ne in the defensive line and around the ruck resulted in a reversal of fortune, with Corrib touching down for a further 2 tries in the second half. Sligo failed to convert their many chances into scores and were disappoint­ed to leave the pitch without any points. The full-time score was Sligo U17s 17 Corrib U17s 25.

Sligo U16s were comfortabl­e winners on a 48-24 scoreline in the Developmen­t league against a weak Ballyhauni­s side on Saturday last. In spite of Storm Brian, match conditions were good and Sligo started with real purpose, this dominance continued for the rest of the first half with the home side scoring 4 converted tries to no score, with newcomer Aaron Davey scoring his first ever try in youth rugby. The weather conditions deteriorat­ed in the second half, but Sligo never let up, and continued to pressurise the Ballyhauni­s pack scoring a further 4 tries, the game finished Sligo 48 Ballyhauni­s 24 . There were strong performanc­es from many players but Matthew O’Hara , Danny Funke and captain Cathal Feely impressed most. Next up for Sligo is Claremorri­s on November 4th in the A league.

The 1st XV are back in action next weekend in the AIL league when they travel to Bective Rangers. Sligo RFC is hosting a Boston Tea Party Fundraiser at the Glasshouse Hotel on Saturday November 4th at 8pm. There will be 25 tables and entertainm­ent afterwards at a cost of €25 a seat. This is a fun night out and an excellent way to generate much-needed funds to keep the club running in the manner at such a high standard.
