PUCK GOAT FOR PARADE

Manorhamil­ton is about to establish an unique link with Kerry’s legendary Puck Fair in Killorglin when the animal that has made the Kingdom town’s annual festival world famous will make a dramatic appearance in the North Leitrim’s town’s Halloween Festival Parade on next Monday night.

It is understood from a reliable source in Manorhamil­ton’s Halloween Festival Parade Organising Committee that a search party has been set up to check out all the local mountain peaks like on Benbo, O’Donnell’s Rock, Saddle Hill, Dough and Thur, plus some others, in a bid to locate a suitable Puck Goat in good time for the Halloween Parade.

Meanwhile, Gerry Creamer, a spokesman for the Manor event states the ‘Halloween Parade will take place this year on Monday evening, October 30, commencing at 6.30 p.m. from Bee Park Community Centre, following a route round the town via Church Lane, and Main Street and finishing at the castle, where musical entertainm­ent and a Barbecue will take place.

1916 PLAQUE UNVEILED

Many local 19th Infantry Battalion FCA Associatio­n members were present recently when a 1916 Memorial Plaque at Manorhamil­ton Castle was unveiled.

It was the second of three plaques to be erected by the associatio­n in counties Sligo, Leitrim and Roscommon. The proceeding­s commenced at the Castle Café with a history talk on ‘Manorhamil­ton in 1916’, given by local historian Margaret Connolly.

The plaque was unveiled by Tommy Sheridan and a wreath was laid by associatio­n president, Tommy Heraghty. Seán Keaney gave a fine rendition of the National Anthem and the 1916 Proclamati­on was read by Seán Farrell.

The event was attended by associatio­n members, Members of Organisati­on of National Ex-Servicemen, UN Veterans and Civil Defence along with many Manorhamil­ton residents. A Flag Party and Piper from the 28th Infantry Battalion, Finner Camp added greatly to the occasion. Following the unveiling, the attendees enjoyed light refreshmen­ts in Heraghty’s Bar.

PIONEER MASS/DANCE

The eagerly awaited annual North Leitrim and West Cavan Pioneer Total Abstinence Associatio­n dinner dance will take place in Dorrian’s Imperial Hotel Ballyshann­on on Friday night, November 10, when the popular Lakelander­s Band will provide the music for patrons attending.

The P. T. A. A. Dinner dance will by preceded by their annual Mass in St Aidan’s Church Kinlough at 8 p.m. Tickets, costing €25 each, for the North Leitrim and West Cavan P. T. A. A. dinner dance in the Manorhamil­ton area are available from Bernie McDonald, Glencar and Joe Fox, Mullies. All non-pioneers will be most welcome on the night, as well.

BRIGADE’S WIN

A major success was recently achieved by the excellent Manorhamil­ton Girls’ Brigade when they were declared the clear-cut overall winners of the 2017 Leitrim Environmen­t and Community Award competitio­n.

The award was presented to Manorhamil­ton Girls’ Brigade at a gala ceremony in the Bush Hotel Carrick-on-Shannon on Thursday night, October 12, by the Leitrim County Council chairperso­n, Finola Armstrong, who noted the judges were highly impressed by the Brigade members massive endeavour and great dedication.
