We were against the breeze in the first half but were three points to no score up after 15 minutes with points from Odhrán Quinn and Oisín Flynn. Niall Judge was having a great battle with the opposition danger man and was on top for all the game. In the last few minutes after a number of wides the amalgamation team got three points but badly missed an easy scorable free. The half time score was 0-3 v 0-3 We started the second half like the first with a scoring burst. Ronán Wilson was pulled down after a great driving run through the centre after catching the kickout. Odhrán drove the penalty to the net. This was followed up by two points, one a great effort from Micheál Cahill from long range after a great run out of defence. However, despite a number of good chances we failed to improve on the score and in the 48-50th minute of the game Geevagh/St Michael’s scored 1-2 to level the scores up.

We drove up the field and points from Paul Flynn put us back in front. Their keeper made an excellent save from James Boland at this time. Odhrán caught a miskicked free and from 30metres let fly and into the bottom corner of the net. From the resulting kickout Paul caught it and one look up, straight over the bar to seal the victory.

The shield was presented to Micheál Cahill by Coiste na nÓg secretary Pat Conway.

Thanks to the players, management and the team support for all their efforts this year.

Under-13 A FEILE SEMI FINAL – Castleconnor 2-7 Collera/Strandhill 5-6 This game was played at home on Sunday morning. Before the game it was obvious we were physically smaller than the visitors and it showed in the first minutes when we went behind early on. Midway through the half we were 2-4 to 0-0 down but we held them scoreless for the remainder of the half and began running around and by them. At half time we had reduced the lead to 2-6 v 1-2. We started the second half brightly with points from Cathal Feeney and Stephen.

Rogan. However, our chief scorer in the first half Colm Ruthledge went off injured at this time. We still fought on and Darragh Flynn scored three frees and when Stephen Rogan scored a goal the lead was down to four points.

Unfortunately we conceded right from the kickout and then a mishit shot found its way to a goal hanging forward to push them out of sight again. We kept on going to the very end and it was an excellent achievement for the young team to reach this stage of the competition and also to put in such a brave effort. Thanks to the team, and management for their efforts.

PRESENTATION – At the final on Sunday there will be a presentation to volunteers of clubs within the county. It is to do with Sligo being the European Capital of Volunteering for 2017. Both Seán Gordon and Geraldine McDonald will be honoured.
