UNDER 16 and Under 21 exit the championship

THE club’s playing season came to an end over the Bank Holiday weekend when both the u16s and u21s were defeated by Easkey/ Enniscrone and Drumcliffe/Rosses Point respectively. Our u21s made the short trip to Oxfield, where they came up againat a very lively, strong opposition. Despite this, our lads were in contention right up to the end and with a bit more luck and composure in front of goals, may well have come away with a result. Team: Oisin Conway, Fionn Morrissey, David Kilrehill (0-01), James Hampson (Eoin McCormack), Ronan Redmond, Seán Murphy, Kevin Banks, Cillian McCahey (Kevin Harte), Peter Doherty (Eoin Macken 1-00), Mark McCallion, Shay Doherty (0-01), Adam Kerrigan (0-01) (Alan Scanlon), Kieran Prior (0-04).

THE under 16s travelled to Enniscrone on Monday to play the host amalgamation in the shield semi-final. Although the boys started well, some quick goals soon had them facing an uphill battle, and they trailed by eight points at half time. Needing a good start to the second half, they conceded early and though they battled to the end it wasn’t to be their day. Team: Jack Molloy, Aidan Davey, Fiachra Staunton. Rory McVeigh, Jack Murphy, Tristan Gilligan, Orin Mitchell, Lee Wilson, Ciarán Flynn (0-01), Oran McDonagh (0-02), Donagh Flynn (0-01), Josh Gilligan (1-01) (Stephen Lynch), Sam McDermott (Cormac Heneghan), Keelan Harte (0-02), Liam Gilligan (Jim Heneghan).

MANY congratulations to Kevin Banks, who last Friday, was awarded a hurling All-Star on the Lory Meagher Team of the Year. This was deserved recognition for Kevin’s displays in the county colours.

IT is a great source of pride for our club that Niall Murphy has been selected for the International Rules series and is currently preparing with the rest of the squad in Melbourne, before heading to Adelaide for the first of two Test Matches. The second match will be in Perth a week later. We wish Niall the very best of luck and hope he has a wonderful experience. A.G.M.

PLEASE note that the club AGM will take place on December 4th. Further details later.

COMMISERATIONS to our junior men’s footballers who were beaten by St Molaise Gaels (1-19 to 2-9) in last Monday’s championship final replay at Kent Park. On the day, the team could have few complaints as our opponents were deserving winners over the course of the hour.

WE battled hard throughout with John Hester in particular making an impressive contribution of 1-4 However, Molaise were full value for their seven-point win at the finish. NONETHELESS, it’s been a highly encouraging season overall with the team reaching both the championship and league deciders in 2017.

OUR thanks to the management team of James McTiernan and Paddy Gormley and all the players for their dedication during the season.

THE DRP junior team last Monday was: Justin Lyons, Shane Creamer, Eunan Cannon, Luke McDermott, Hugh Kisby, David Collins (C), Ruairi McLoughlin, Paddy Gormley, Brian Monaghan, Colin Ginty, David Brady, Eoin Gaughan 0-4, Tom Armstrong 1-0, John Hester 1-4, Joseph Keyes. EASTERN HARPS

Our minor boys lost out to Mayo champions Balla in the Connacht semi-final on a score line of 2:09 to 2:06. It was level at half time and both teams found it hard to get scores but the decisive score went to Balla who got a goal 20 minutes into the second half. We continued to fight back and got back to within a goal but the clock was against us. This has been a great year for the lads and management team and we look forward to seeing all these lads joining our senior ranks next season.

Our U16 boys beat St. Patrick’s/ Farnan’s on Bank Holiday Monday. After a long delay in the playing of this game it was inevitable that we were very rusty and our first half performance was poor. We were losing at half time by 0:08 points to 1:03. Our goal coming from Luke Hogge. We improved in the second half and appeared to adapt better to the heavy underfoot conditions. Kyle Cosgrove started to dominate the mid field exchanges and Kacper Grzenda, Kieran Breheny, and Eoin Higgins played very well in defence.

We chipped away at the deficit before Eoin Connolly got injured after a rash challenge by the opposing keeper resulting in a red card for them but equally as big a blow for us as we lost Eoin who was playing very well. The numerical advantage stood to us and we took a lead that we never relinquished. Finn Bruen scored a goal to put enough daylight between us for the last few minutes and we eventually ran out winners by 3.10 to 12 points. Our final against St Molaise Gael’s is fixed for this Wednesday evening at 7pm in Scarden but please check the fixtures link on our website and Facebook for any updates.

Our supporters have been excellent in supporting our team all year so we need you all out in force. Our U20 mens game against St. Farnan’s didn’t go ahead on Sunday as our opposition failed to field. We play Castleconnor in Keash on this Sunday morning in the Championship semi-final with the time to be confirmed. Our minor girls play their Connacht semi-final on November 26th. They play the winners of the game between Mayo and Galway. No details of venue as of yet. The Club will be holding their A.G.M later that evening in Gurteen Hall at 6pm. This Friday night Bingo in association with Eastern Harps continues as usual in Gurteen Hall at 8.30pm. The jackpot has now reached €2,300 in 49 calls or less with the lotto jackpot 1 at €300. Thanks to all who help out on Friday nights and to those who
