Comfortabl­e win for Strand

IT was a wet and windy Saturday evening in Strandhill where the visitors Ballygawlw­ey Celtic took on Strand Celtic. Both sides struggled with the conditions and the first half was a stalemate. Lee Marshall opened the scoring on the 50th minute and he scored his second to double Strand’s lead with a wonderful chip over the Ballygawle­y goalkeeper.

Ballygawle­y created a number of chances over the next ten minutes and looked like they would get back into the game but against the run of play, Barry O’Mahony scored from the edge of the box to make it three.

Substitute Kaillum Burns made his debut for the home side and within five minutes of coming on he scored to make it four.

Arrow Harps were at home to Calry Bohs and it was the visitors who took the lead after 22 mins with a goal from Kevin Coen. Their lead was cancelled out 15 mins later when striker Anthony Elding equalised leaving the scoreline level at half time.

Both sides had plenty of chances, Calry almost scored, hitting the post on one occasion. The game was won in the 75th minute with Karl McKenna netting for the home side

Meanwhile BEE Park produced a cracking game with a total of nine goals on show. Ballisodar­e went four up after forty minutes with a hat trick from prolific finisher Darragh Healy and Conor Davey making it four with his goal.

It looked like plain sailing for the visitors but Manor had different ideas and pulled two goals back before half time with Niall Walsh scoring twice. The second half produced more magic and it was Manor who levelled the game with goals from Anthony Mc Donald and Niall Walsh scoring his hat -trick. With two mins remaining Manor Rangers earned a free kick and it was crossed into the box, the ball fell to James Glancy who rifled it home to give the home side all three points. while Brendan Donaghy netted for Chaffpool. Merville Utd had a convincing 6-2 win over Coolaney Utd with goals from Ryan McManus(2), Tyler Stallard, Ben McGarry, David Lynch and Joe Cobbe for the Home side. James Davey and Alan Duggan were on the score sheet for Coolaney.

In the FAI Junior Cup 3rd Round Carbury FC advance to the next round as they were given a walkover by Dysart .

Cartron Utd advance to the next stage of the Connacht Cup as their opponents St Pats conceded the game. MCR made the short trip to take on local side Cliffoney Celtic and came away with a well deserved win scoring three goals in the first half and another three in the second half. Keith Nibbs scored a hat trick for the visitors followed by goals from K, Harvey (2) and Joe Cobbe.

Dromore Villa were at home to Corrib Rangers and it was the visitors who took the lead through a penalty kick. Dromore Villa equalised with a goal from Shane Neary to leave it level at half time. Corrib Rangers received another penalty kick early in the second half and they converted to go 2-1 up. Dromore Villa had their goal keeper sent off following the penalty kick and with ten minutes to go Corrib Rangers secured their victory with a third goal.

Gurteen Celtic travelled to take on Moyne Villa but it was the home team that were victorious with a 7-3 scoreline. Moyne villa were two up at half time and proved too strong for the visitors. Gurteen did score three times in the second half with two Goals from Ross O Dowd and one from Fiachra Gorman.

Real Tubber were away to Galway side Cois Fharraige and the home side proved too strong for Real and it is Cois Fharraige who head into the next round following a 5-0 win.
