CHARITIES DONATIONS

The North West Heritage and Vintage Club recently staged a charities presentati­on night in Manorhamil­ton’s Bee Park Community Centre when two cheques for €5,112.97 each were presented to Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital Crumlin and Chernobyl Aid Ireland Ltd.

Kevin Kelly accepted the €5,112.97 cheque at the Vintage Club’s presentati­on on behalf of Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital. Two Vintage Club members, Sheila and Séamus Gilligan, nominated Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital as one of the two charities to receive a 2017 Club donation.

After the presentati­on Kevin Kelly expressed his gratitude to the Vintage Club, as well as to Sheila and Séamus Gilligan, for the generous donation to Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital. He explained while the hospital in Crumlin was the main one in Ireland for children’s illnesses, it now has several other centres in Ireland where sick children can receive treatment without having to travel to Dublin.

Mr Kelly also stated that Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital is involved in a major way in treating diabetes in children for sometime now and also that the hospital plays a big role nationally in the management of diabetes in children’s lives.

The CEO of Chernobyl Aid Ireland, Liam Grant accepted the €5,112.97 cheque at the Vintage Club’s presentati­on on behalf of his charity. The two Vintage Club members that nominated Chernobyl Aid Ireland to be one of the two charities to receive a 2017 Club donation were Monica and Tom Walsh.

Speaking after the presentati­on Liam Grant thanked the Vintage Club, as well as Monica and Tom Walsh, for the generous donation. He said that Chernobyl Aid Ireland has been working for 20 years now helping children in Belorussia, who are still suffering serious health conditions that have been caused by the nuclear explosion in Chernobyl on April 26, 1986.

PIONEER DANCE

For well over half a century now for the North Leitrim and West Cavan Pioneer Total Abstinence Associatio­n members, their annual dinner dance has been the social highlight of the year.

Continuing this tradition in 2017, the North Leitrim and West Cavan Pioneer Total Abstinence Associatio­n dinner dance will take place in Dorrian’s Imperial Hotel Ballyshann­on on Friday night, November 10, when the popular Lakelander­s Band will provide the music for patrons attending.

The Pioneer dinner dance will by preceded by their annual Mass in St Aidan’s Church Kinlough at 8 p.m. Tickets, costing €25 each, for the North Leitrim and West Cavan PTAA dinner dance in the Manorhamil­ton area are available from Bernie McDonald, Glencar, and Joe Fox, Mullies.

FLOWER DEMO

A Christmas flower demonstrat­ion that will be facilitate­d by the talented Austin Stronge takes place in the Glens Centre on Wednesday night, December 8, at 8 p.m.

Mulled wine and mince pies will be served to all attending and the Austin Stronge demonstrat­ions made on the night will be raffled at the end. The Christmas flower demonstrat­ion is being promoted as a fundraiser for a worthy cause while the admission fee will be €10 per person attending.

The Dark Evenings have highlighte­d the need check in on your elderly neighbours and relatives in our community, throughout the forthcomin­g winter months. Plenty of hot tea, good meals, and, most importantl­y the regular chat can do wonders during these shorter days.

ACTIVE AGE GROUP

The Merville Active Age Group meets on Tuesday Nights at 7.30 p.m., New members are always welcome to come along and get involved.

UPCOMING COURSES

Merville Community Centre seek interested persons for upcoming courses commencing over the next few weeks. Proposed courses include introducti­on to computers and flower arranging, subject to sufficient interest. Part funding for these courses has been provided by the Mayo, Sligo and Leitrim Education and Training Board. Please ring the centre office on 9150029 for further informatio­n and to register. SHAMROCK GAELS

Preparatio­ns are well under way at Shamrock Gaels club for their ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ on Friday, November 17, in the Clayton Hotel. This will be a major fundraisin­g event for the upkeep and maintenanc­e of the main pitch in Coola and also the Gaelic pitch in Riverstown Park. Any support would be greatly appreciate­d.
