THE FUTURE

You may recall that I asked the question a number of weeks back of what the parish of Keash/Culfadda will look like in 20 years time. I have had a lot of feed back which is extremely encouraging. There are many extremely interesting thoughts of parishioners projections for the future. It is very encouraging to note that people do not take for granted the different facilities within the community ie schools, shops, churches, football clubs and so on. It is clear without young people setting up homes in the parish, some or all of the facilities outlined above will be lost. Is it to difficult for young people to get planning permission for new dwellings in our parish? If it is, what can be done? Reference has been made to towns in the USA (which are the centres for wide hinterlands). These towns are not what we understand today (here in Ireland) in that only one or two of the buildings in the given town operate a business. This business would contain a number of different types of operation under the one roof. Is this where our towns and local businesses are going? For young people to continue to live in the Country there must be jobs. What can be done to create jobs? Can farming be made more viable? Alot of blame has been placed on the Celtic Tiger. Some people feel that the Celtic Tiger made communities a little lazier. Funds were available much easier than today. Reference was made to our Ancestors and what they done to hand us down what we have today and that it is our obligation to hand an active and vibrant parish down to the next generation (otherwise our Children/Grandchildren) will have to leave and set up home elsewhere. These are only some of the thoughts. Could people continue to contact me on the e mail address below, in the hope that these views can lead to something more and once again thank you for the different views to date.
