Making money at Rag Week with drugs
A young man who came to Sligo during Rag Week intended making a few pounds through the sale of illegal drugs, Judge Kevin Kilrane remarked at Sligo District Court.
Before the court was Gavin Kiernan (23), Lamagh, Newtownforbes, Longford who admitted a possessin charge at Brookfield on February 24 th 2016.
The court heard he ran off on seeing Garda, throwing away nine small bags which contained ecstasy. There was also a deal of cocaine found in his car.
The street value of the drugs was €890.
The court heard the defendant hadn’t come to Garda notice since.
Judge Kilrane said he was going to give the defendant a chance and applied the Probation Act.
At the same court, John Pearse Hever, Carrigans Upper, Ballymote was fined €300 for possessing €50 worth of ecstasy at his home on December 15 th 2015 following a serach by Gardaí.
The case was in for hearing but the defendant was not in court said Mr Gerard McGovern, solicitor (defending) who said he had wrote to Hever.
