Criminal offence

-

Sligo County Council will support draft legislation currently being prepared to make it a criminal offence to recklessly endanger the li ves of emergency workers. That is after a motion put for ward by Cllr Keith Henr y received support across the board from councillors at l ast week’s meeting. Cllr Henr y described the actions of some who put the li ves of emergency crews in danger during the recent Storm Ophelia, saying it was hard to believe people would swim the sea and remain outdoors despite the warnings that were in place in Sligo and nationwide. Cllr Paul Taylor seconded the motion and agreed with the sentiments while Cllr Hubert Keaney said that people were wasting the time of emergency ser vice workers by engaging in reckless activit y during difficult weather conditions.
