Moorhouse on board for Rovers’ new season
SLIGO Rovers can confirm Greg Moorhouse’s contract has been extended until the end of the 2018 season, with nine players now signed for the #bitored for the new campaign.
Moorhouse joined Rovers on the last day of the July transfer window and has impressed in recent games, with manager Gerard Lyttle rewarding the attacker with the new deal.
The 23-year-old said: “I’ve really enjoyed it here. Obviously the big thing we had to focus on was staying in the Premier Division and now I want to get a good run at it next year in a full season with the club.
“It’s always hard to come into a team in the middle of the season. You want to hit the ground running.
“I don’t really feel I did that. It’s hard to come in and score goals when the team weren’t really doing that.
“It was tough but I thought I put in a few good performances. “I wasn’t helped by one or two injuries as well midway through it. But the few games I was involved I thought I did well and hopefully I can improve on that next year.
“I damaged ribs in Finn Harps and I got an injection to play in Galway. As soon as I got hit there, that was it and it took a few weeks to get back in the team then.
“I was on the bench for Bohs and Shamrock Rovers and then got back in. The few weeks were hit and miss. I’m looking forward to next year to get a proper run and show what I can do.
“It’s brilliant to have faith from the manager. The year before when I played against his team I did some damage against them.
“He obviously remembers that. I’m already working now in the off-season with a view to being sharp and ready to go for the start of pre-season.
“Hopefully I can do some damage next year.”
Lyttle said of Moorhouse re-signing: “Greg has a massive season ahead of him.
“I’ve spoken to him individually on a couple of occasions that I know what he can do and what player he can become. There is a huge potential and he’s a top talent.
“When he joined us, he didn’t have a proper pre-season after the four weeks trial with Coventry.
“He was disappointed that it didn’t work out over there and I don’t think the Showgrounds saw the best of him in the three months he was here. But with every game you could see the potential and I want him to work on his game and the full pre-season with us will be a huge help.
“I like his attitude and his ambition and I’m excited to see what he will produce because I know how good he can be and the talent there
“His work-rate is excellent, he doesn’t give defenders a minute’s peace. He’s a player to watch in 2018.”
