Sligo town is runner up in National Enterprise Awards

-

There was delight last week as Sligo town reached the finals in this year’s Bank of Ireland National Enterprising Town Awards.

Sligo Business Improvement District (BID) nominated the town centre and attended the award ceremony in Tullamore last week along with Sligo County Council.

As a first time entrant, Sligo won runner up in the region and a cash prize of €2,000. From the towns profiled in the category it was clear the standard was very high - Tralee won the overall title.

Head of County Bank of Ireland Sligo Tara Rodgers said: “We are absolutely delighted that Sligo Town and Tubbercurry were among the shortlisted towns on the night and this highlights that the spirit of enterprise is alive and well in these two local areas.”

“We are proud of our strong connections in Sligo and we share a common passion to support enterprise in local communities around the county,” she said.

“Enterprising Town Awards is about giving back and rewarding towns where businesses and community groups are working together with their local council and state agencies to contribute to the overall enterprising nature of the town, village or urban area,” she added.

Cllr Rosaleen O’Grady paid tribute to everyone involved for “putting Sligo on the map” at yesterday’s meeting of Sligo Municipal District. “Well done to all involved,” she said.
