Gormley joins Molaise

WILLIE Gormley has been appointed Manager of St Molaise Gaels senior team for 2018. The Bunninadde­n Club man has won County Senior championsh­ip honours both as a Player with his home Club and as Manager with Tubbercurr­y also managed IT Sligo Senior team and Bundoran Seniors. Wlilie has assembled a strong team to assist him in the year ahead with James Watters, Gareth Phlean, and Philip Lang taking up roles. Team Selector James, who led Gaels to a Senior League title as Manager in 2011, is joined by ex Leitrim star Gareth Phelan who was also part of the successful 2011 Management Team and Gareth will have a key role in strength and conditioni­ng for the squad. Philip Lang as Team Statistici­an continues in the role he performed in 2017 under Management of Damien Kelly and Oisín Coyne. Club Chairman Sean Herron thanked Damien and Oisin for all their hard work in 2017 and he wished the new Management Team every success. He said the Sub Committee who recommende­d the appointmen­t of Willie Gormley following an interview process had been extremely impressed with his plans for the team.

THE Sligo Champion has won an award at the 2017 Aldi Community Games Media Awards, The gala ceremony is being held in the Johnstown Estate, Enfield, this Saturday.

There will be a gala banquet and afterwards the awards ceremony itself will take place.

The Sligo Champion has been a long-standing supporter of the Sligo Community Games for many years and the main sponsor.

The newspaper covers all of the Sligo Community Games events being held, both in Sligo and nationally.

There have been many awards given to the coverage by the paper, including for some excellent sporting photograph­s of the competitio­ns down through the years.
