Cornview bounce back over Gorillas

-

THE Sligo Rovers astro league continues to be unpredictable and exciting, as teams are entering their last three weeks of league games before the Christmas break.

With the league splitting in January, all teams are eager to pick up as much points as possible, to ensure a top six finish and premier division football in 2018.

Cornview Celtic bounced back from their defeat against the Bourbon Bar last week, by defeating the White Gorillas 5-1.

It was a rampant display from one of the title favourites, with a hat-trick from Gareth Kelly and goals from Damian and JA Lyons ensuring the three points.

Michael Forde got the consolation goal for the Gorillas.

The result sent Cornview top of the league by two points, but will have to plan without Gerard Murphy for the next three league games due to a suspension.

A side beginning to gather some momentum in the league is Sally Gardens, and they registered an emphatic 7-2 win over Inter Inferno.

It was a dominant display from the Ballisodare men who are anxious to maintain their league crown from last season.

It was even sweeter for them with seven different goal scorers on the night being Johnny Kenna, Josh Verden, Noel Mc enna, Noel Meenaghan, Damian Gannon, Aaron Nicholson and Tommy Trill. The result sent Sally’s fourth in the league and they will be keen to maintain their momentum.

Another side finally living up to expectations is GSS, who recorded their second victory in as many weeks after they saw off the challenge of Calry 3-0.

Dermot O’Connor, Sean Taylor and Sean O’Brien got on the score sheet for the men in blue who now rise to 10th in the standings, only 4 points off that elusive top six.

Forrest Celtic provided the shock of the week by defeating title chasing Bourbon Bar 2-0 on Friday last. Going into the game, the Bourbon needed a victory to keep in touch at the top, where as a win would Forrest would send them sixth.

It was always going to be a physical game and so it proved. The difference however was some wonderful finishing from striker Seamus Kane who registered a brace to collect the points for his Forrest side.

A fully deserved three points for a side that had been somewhat unlucky in games so far this season.

The final game of the week saw the Bald Eagles defeating Strand Celtic 1-0.

Kieran Murphy was the hero on the night, a winning goal which sent his side fourth in the league.

This weeks fixtures: Tuesday @9pm Bourbon Bar vs. Calry; Wednesday @8pm White Gorillas vs. Inter Inferno @9pm Forrest Celtic vs. GSS; Friday @8pm Ballymote Celtic vs. Sally Gardens.
