Driver fined for not obeying left turn sign at Abbey St

A man was fined €80 for driving straight onto Castle St from the Abbey St junction instead of turning left. Michael Breen, 58, with an address of Lacken, Enniscrone, was stopped by gardaí at Abbey St on March 10 th last. He was fined for not obeying a road traffic sign. Inspector Donal Sweeney said he had driven straight across the road onto Castle St. He was fined €80.

At the same court sitting, Darren Finnerty, with an address at Barranard, Ballina, Co Mayo was fined €400 for no tax when stopped at Carrickhen­ry, Sligo, on April 18th last. The annual tax on the vehicle amounted to €769.

Also at the same sitting, Elvis Elpido de Oliveira, 28, with an address of Bayview Terrace, Sligo, was fined €50 and disqualifi­ed from driving for one year. Ms Laura Spellman, defending solicitor, told the court he was a painter and was working at the time for a company and thought he was covered under his employer’s insurance.
