-

STUDENTS at St. Angela’s College last week held a campus referendum on the issue of abortion.

The results found that 83.1 % of voters choose to adopt a pro-choice position in support of the National Campaign to Repeal the 8th Amendment.

Student Union President Aoife Deasy says: “The Students’ Union now have a pro-choice stance, allowing the union to campaign ahead of a National referendum.

“The Repeal the 8 society, with the support of USI provided information leaflets and answered questions in the run up to the vote.”

All registered St Angela’s students were entitled to vote, with a voter turnout of 20.9 %.

Aoife adds: “We were delighted with the turn out. This was a student led campaign, with an emphasis on the right to make a decision, the right to information, and the right to choose.
