-

To highlight volunteerism in Sligo during our year as European Volunteer Capital 2017, Rebecca Kennedy talks to Megan Sheerin, a volunteer at The Model.

Megan tells The Sligo Champion about the welcoming work environment at The Model.

“What I enjoy about volunteering at The Model is that the team are really welcoming and I’ve already made some good friends,” she says.

“My duties at The Model include welcoming in visitors, informing them about the exhibitions and liaising with the rest of the staff to ensure the smooth running of the contemporary art programme. It’s great to be given so much responsibility, it’s makes me feel that I am a valued and important member of the team.”

She adds:“I didn’t know too much about art before I came here, but when you work in The Model, you learn on your feet! By working here, I’ve learnt so much about such about Irish art, culture and our heritage. It’s been really interesting.”

“I would recommend volun- teering here to anyone who may be looking for something a little different!”
