The Sligo Champion

Santa Cycle and Turbo sessions

-

INNISFREE Wheelers will hold a static turbo cycle session once again this year to support the Sligo Lions Christmas Food Appeal. The session will take place in Quayside Shopping Centre on Saturday December 9th from 11am until 5pm. Members will take turns on the two turbos for up to an hour each and two other members will collect funds for the charity assisted by members of Sligo Lions Club. The club has been doing this event now for the past five years and are always overwhelmed with the outstanding generosity of the people of Sligo. Funds go directly towards the purchase of food parcels which are distributed by Sligo Lions Club members to the less fortunate families in the Sligo area.

The launch of the Innisfree Wheelers Santa Cycle was held on Friday morning in City Hall. Although the turbo sessions on Saturday should have shook off the sore heads following the club party on the Friday night, Innisfree Wheelers have their most popular annual fun cycling event lined up for Sunday the 10th of December, starting from the Knocknarea Arena at IT Sligo at 11am. Registration is taken on the morning from 10am with a donation of just €15. The event is open to anyone who can ride a bike for up to a distance of 40km. A helmet is also an essential item required on the day. This event is also supporting the Sligo Lions Club Christmas Food Appeal. Cyclists will do a tour of Lough Gill dressed in Santa suits, or indeed any other item of clothing that is seasonal. There have been Moose suits, Christmas Fairies, Reindeers, and of course a few Elves in the past. There are prizes for the best costumes worn by a lady and by a gentleman. The cyclists will be stopping at The Blue Devon Pub in Dromahair for mince pies and tea or coffee. They reassemble together outside town to parade down the town. Baked food from club members will be available post-cycle in Connolly’s bar. This has become a very popular event on the club’s calendar and anyone in Sligo is encouraged to join the Innisfree Wheelers on the day.
