Primary schools in Scór na bPáistí
The first ever Scór na bPáistí for primary schools was held recently in Rathcormac. 168 kids took to the stage on the night from 12 different schools. The competition is organised by Sligo GAA’s Scór Committee. Sligo GAA’s Cultural officer Keith Henry said: “It was a huge success and thanks to everyone who made it happen.”
Rockfield NS won the figure dancing category, while Amber Jade McDonnell representing Rathlee NS was the Solo Singing winner.
Stokane NS student Abbey Barrett was the champion in the Recitation/Storytelling.
The winners of the Ballad Group contest was Rathcormac NS. The Leiriu winners also were Rathcormac NS. Owenbeg NS took the honours in the Instrumental Music.
The Set Dancing winners were Rathcormac NS. The Scór na nÓg finals took place on Saturday in Ballintogher. Sligo will be hosting the All Ireland in February.
This is a major event for Sligo, with more than 2,000 people visiting across two weekends.
Scór is made up of eight different disciplines; figure dancing, set dancing, instrumental music group, solo singing, ballad group, recitation/ storytelling, stage presentation and a table quiz.
Competitors represent their clubs and compete in a County Final first before progressing to a provincial final, where the winners then go on to the All-Ireland finals.
Sligo will be hosting the Scór na nÓg All Ireland final (U17 years) on February 17 th and Scór Sinsir (Over 17 years) on April 14 th. Both take place in the Knocknarea Arena.
