Enniscrone wins ‘Pride of Place’ top award
THE west Sligo village of Enniscrone scooped a national prize at the Pride of Place awards last Saturday night.
The coastal community famed for its unspoilt beaches, scenic links course, seaweed baths and sand dunes took the runner up award in Category three, which is for villages with a population of between 1,000 and 2,000 people. More recently the seaside town hit the headlines as a result of local businessman David McGowan’s successful attempt to transport a Boeing plane to his Quirky Glamping campsite.
RTE presenter Aengus MacGrianna was MC for the gala ceremony in Letterkenny attended by over 800 people. Donegal County Council hosted the evening and celebrated Irish musicians Donal Lunney and Paddy Glackin entertained the audience before the winners were announced.
Tom Dowling, Chairperson of IPB Pride of Place Competition said: “The awards acknowledge the achievements and the invaluable work undertaken by volunteers and those involved in local community development. This competition is about showing respect and inclusion for every sector in your community so that everyone belongs.”
