Sinn Féin Councillor Chris MacManus has confirmed that outgoing Sinn Féin leader Gerr y Adams, TD, will speak at a public meeting in Sligo next Thursday, December 7th. The event, being held in the Southern Hotel at 8pm, is one of a small number of regional public gatherings throughout Ireland following his announceme­nt to step down as Sinn Féin leader.

Councillor MacManus said: “I’m delighted that Gerr y Adams has chosen Sligo as his only Connacht\ Northwest event, where he will engage on issues such as Brexit, Towards a United Irel and, and the upcoming elections.

“As ever yone is aware, Gerr y recently announced his intention to step down as Sinn Féin leader early in 2018. This decision highlight s a generation­al shif t within Irish Republican­ism.

“My generation of Sinn Féin activist s are now t aking up the baton as the transition in the par t y t akes place. However, our core vision of Irish Unit y and of social and economic equalit y for all our citizens remains.

“Gerr y, as he steps down as leader, wants to t ake the opportunit y at this meeting to thank all those who worked with him and helped build Irish Republican­ism to where it has over half a million voters across the island. This will be the l ast time he visit s the region as par t y leader.”
