Summerhill in final

-

SUMMERHILL College’s first years are in the Connacht A final today, they face Presentation College Athenry at 12:30pm in the Connacht Centre of Excellence.

Mark Breheny is coach along with Joe Neary and Tommy Kelly.

Mark said they are looking forward to the game as it’s been a number of years since Summerhill last won the title.

He added: “The last final we won at this level was back in 2009 and the previous A title before that was back in 1994.

“I was playing on that team, Conor O’Grady, Karl O’Neill and Ian Rossiter were some of the others too.

“On the team from 2009 the likes of Dylan Kilgallon and Darragh Cummins were part of it,” he said.

Mark explained it can be hard as first year teams are not together as long as older teams but it’s about getting the performance right on the day.

“We are really looking forward to it.

“We had a good semi-final win over St Jarlath’s so that was the highlight so far and we did well in our group games.”

Players from both the town and county are part of the first year squad too.

“There’s a solid group there, a great mixture of clubs from out of town as well.

“We have players from Geevagh, Coolaney and Manorhamilton too.”

In terms of the opposition, Mark said Athenry are known to be strong.

“We got a bit of a low down on them and they have a good midfield and big men.

“They have a few boys from the likes of Corofin so they will be good, we expect it’s going to be a big tussle.

“It will all be about taking our chances on the day,” Mark added.

Throw-in to the Connacht final between Summerhill College and Presentation College Athenry is at 12:30pm today in the Connacht Centre of Excellence, Ballyhaunis as Summerhill bid for glory.
