White Gorillas and Bourbon Bar ends in a draw

THE White Gorillas held the inform Bourbon Bar to a 2-2 draw on Wednesday n the Sligo Rovers Astro League, to put a huge dent in the Bourbon’s pre-Christmas title charge.

Going into the game as red hot favourites, the Bourbon knew nothing less than a win would do as they aimed to keep pace with the top two in the league.

The Bourbon bossed the game at times with the White Gorillas playing on the counter attack which left the game quite open.

Ironically it was a last minute Jim Sheridan header which rescued a point for his Bourbon side, who went on the rue their missed chances.

Martyn Bystrainsk­y was the other goals scorer for Bourbon on the night, while Marcus Hunt and Michael Forde notched for the gorillas who registered their first points in the league since October.

The Bald Eagles continue to defy expectatio­n as they defeated Forrest Celtic 2-1.

The Eagles are the surprise team thus far, as their climb up the league standings continue.

Goals from Seamie Cannon and Jamie Conlon all but ensured they will be playing Premier Division football after Christmas.

Azad Orange got the goal for Forrest who need one more win from their last two games to ensure a top 6 finish and Premier Division football in 2018.

GSS continued their recent run of good form by defeating Ballymote 4-2.

A side that started quite slow this season, have finally hit top gear and are moving up the league standings. Goals from John Mc Nulty, Kieran Staed and a brace from Colm Duffy collected the three points for the men in blue who now sit 8th, one point off that illusive 6th spot. Eammon Tighe and Leo McNamara got on the score sheet for Ballymote.

Cornview Celtic continue to sit pretty on the top of the league standings and remain the team to catch, as they disposed of a youthful Strand Celtic side 4-0.

A brace each from Gareth Kelly and Barry Leonard collected the three points for Cornview who now know victories in their final two games before Christmas will ensure top spot. Calry finished up their league campaign with a very impressive 3-1 victory over Sally Gardens. A double from Colm Dev- aney and a goal from Mark Hynes was enough to collect the three points. Phillip Candon scored for the Sallys who are running the risk of falling out of the top six.
