Parents’ group voice concern over Cregg move
PARENTS of chilldren attending the HSE Cregg Services in Rosses Point have voiced concern about the proposed move to a new premises at Dunally on the Manorhamilton Road.
Parents have been advised that over the coming months the IONA/STEPS group will be relocating to the premises.
Parents are objecting to the relocation of the Day Services for their young adults saying it is an unserviced rural area, contrary to Government policy and the criteria defining New Service Locations as set out in the HSE documents, New Directions and Transforming Lives. The Parents and Guardians of HSE Cregg Services have written to the HSE saying they visited the proposed site last week.
“We found out last week, after making enquiries at the planning office, that the new premises was actually a disused office building on the former North West Livestock Holdings on an isolated farm at Dunally. This farm is over three miles from Sligo city, alongside a very busy narrow dangerous stretch of the N16 where a 100kph zone applies,” the letter states.
The planning application seeks permission for alterations to the existing building and for change of use to a day centre for school leavers with a learning disability.
“The proposal is to provide facilities for adults with autism and associated intellectual disabilities and by its nature needs to be in the country,” states the planning application.
