Woman’s sentencing hearing set for 2018

THE sentence hearing of a 33-year-old woman for impeding the apprehensi­on or prosecutio­n of her brother for the killing of a man has been set for November next year.

Janice Brady, formerly of Cartron Estate, has pleaded guilty to impeding the apprehensi­on or prosecutio­n of her brother, Keith Brady (30) between August 2nd and August 3rd, 2015 knowing or believing that he was guilty of a killing.

At the Central Criminal Court in Dublin on Monday, a sentencing date in Janice Brady’s case was fixed for November 19 th next year, the same date as her brother’s retrial for the murder of musician and former carpenter, Martin Kivlehan (59).

The jury in his first trial disagreed after a two week hearing.

Brady, also of Cartron Estate, had pleaded not guilty to murder but guilty to the manslaught­er of Martin at New Apartments, Holborn Street, Sligo between August 2nd and 3rd, 2015.

His plea was not accepted and the matter proceeded to a trial before a jury of six women and five men and Mr Justice Paul McDermott.

Mr Kivlehan died from two stab wounds to the neck.
