Lecture on Markree Observatory

THE final Sligo Field Club lecture of the 2017 season takes place on Friday December 15 th when its President, Wendy Lyons speaks on Markree Castle Observatory.

The lecture will cover the founder Edward Joshua Cooper M.P. as related to the Observatory as well as exploring the history and achievements of the Observatory from its construction to its final disbandment in the early 1900’s

Wendy, who has lived in County Sligo for forty years is a member of the Sligo Heritage Forum, Hazelwoood Heritage Society, as well as being SFC President.

She has always had a great interest in local history and is a keen promoter of heritage in all its form within Sligo.

Her special interest is the built heritage of Sligo both large and small.

The lecture begins at 8pm in the Education Centre, IT Sligo.

All are welcome but there is a charge of €5 for non-members.
