The Sligo Champion

Domestic violence Campaign

-

A special memorial was held for victims of domestic violence yesterday (Monday) to mark the International 16 Days of Action Campaign in Sligo.

The lunchtime service took place at the footbridge on the Garavogue River. The Sligo Domestic Violence Advocacy Service (DVAS) and Sligo Traveller Support Group hosted the ceremony which included poetry and readings and culminated with the scattering of flowers to honour the memory of women who have died as a result of domestic violence in Ireland. The International 16 Days of Action Campaign raises awareness of domestic violence in the run up to Chirstmas.
