Man with a checkered past’ banned for a year

A young father of one with a “checkered past” has been banned from driving for a year because he drove without any car insurance.

Mr Tom MacSharry, defending, told Judge Kevin Kilrane that his client, 22 year-old Kyle Foy of Rathcormac, couldn’t afford the insurance.

He was charged with the offence on 5 th September 2016 on the Bundoran Road, Sligo.

The court heard he has previous conviction­s for burglary in 2013 and possession of a knife and drugs in January this year. Mr MacSharry admitted Foy had a “checkered past” but was now a father and trying to better his life.

Judge Kilrane convicted and fined Foy ¤200 and disqualifi­ed him from driving for one year.

Separately, Jonathan Gethins (24) of Garavogue Villas, pleaded guilty to having ¤25 of cannabis on his person and being drunk in public at Dominic Street on 26 th January this year.

The Court heard he has one previous conviction for drugs.

Judge Kilrane convicted and fined Gethins ¤200.
