Call for CCTV for new Housing developments
COUNCILLOR Chris MacManus has asked the Council to budget for community safety measures such as CCTV in new Council housing developments.
Housing official with the Council Joe Murphy told Cllr MacManus that they could certainly ask the Department of Housing for that but to date they hadn’t provided any funding for CCTV to be installed in local authority housing developments.
Chief Executive Ciarán Hayes said there were issues with retro- fitting and design faults with back lanes etc. in old housing designs.
“We can request CCTV funding but we’re hoping with improved housing designs with these new estates there will be less need for CCTV,” he told Cllr MacManus.
