IT Sligo into National Futsal finals
IT Sligo advanced comfortably to the National Futsal Finals after a comprehensive performance in the Regional finals.
IT Sligo hosted the Rustler’s WSCAI Regional Futsal Finals in the Knocknarea Arena.
On Wednesday morning four teams travelled to IT Sligo with the hope of capturing a place in the National Futsal Finals which will be held in Waterford Institute of Technology in January.
The opening goal of the day was scored by Orla Devaney, of Riverstown, from a through ball from IT Sligo’s Northern Ireland Senior International Catherine Hyndman.
This was to set the tone for the day as IT Sligo showed their attacking flair and creativity throughout the group stages winning games by more than a three-goal deficit.
After the group stages both Athlone Institute of Technology and GMIT ‘A’ were drawn on points and played out their encounter to see who would face Sligo in the final.
After an entertaining affair GMIT ’A’ came up on top and moved on to the final.
Sligo had already beat GMIT ‘A’ 1-0 in the first game of the day, and produced a comfortable performance against a battling GMIT ‘A’ to tally a further two unanswered goals.
The final whistle saw IT Sligo not concede a single goal throughout the competition thanks to some intelligent defending, and the safe hands of keeper Sheila Brady.
Sligo will advance to the cup competition in WIT, and their counterparts from the final GMIT ‘A’ will advance to the plate finals.
With IT Sligo in this type of form, the ladies put themselves in good stead going into the National finals in the new year.
