Guilty plea to false imprisonment
A man has pleaded guilty to the false imprisonment of another man during an alleged robbery at his home.
At Sligo Circuit Court last Tuesday, Calem Meade from Killasona, Granard, County Longford pleaded guilty to a charge of false imprisonment of Charles Townsend on November 12 th 2015 at his home house at Glengollan, Ballisodare.
Meade had also been charged with robbing Mr Townsend of €180 in cash along with a Walter pistol and assaulting him. No pleas were entered with regard to these charges.
Mr Joe Barnes BL (defending), instructed by Mr Gerard McGovern, solicitor, said the accused had co-operated fully and that there had been an element of compulsion in this case. Mr Barnes asked that the matter be put back for sentencing and that a probation report would be appropriate. Judge Keenan Johnson remanded Meade on continuing bail to appear at the Circuit Court sittings next February.
