ST FARNAN’S

THE A.G.M. of the club was held recently at which a wide ranging review of the playing season just ended took place. The out-going chairperson, who retained her post, thanked all for their contribution to the club over the course of what was a very busy year. The following officers were elected for the coming year:- Chairperson: Lorna Harte-Gilroy; Ass. Chairperson: Jackie Donlon; Sec: Joanne McAndrew; Ass. Sec: Mary Scott; Treasurer/Registrar: Imelda McNulty; Ass. Treas./ Reg.: Ciara Hannon; Childrens Officer: L. Harte-Gilroy; Dev. Officer: Paul O’Brien; P.R.O.: Sean Kilgannon; Cultural and Language Officer: Deborah Ní Cheallaigh; One very positive development to emerge from the meeting was the decision to field an adult team in the coming year. Due to lack of numbers we haven’t had an adult team for the past two years but the feeling now is that sufficient numbers of young players are progressing from the underage ranks to make the fielding of an adult team viable once again. Paul O’Brien was appointed to the role of manager of this team. Other team officials appointed were U-6/U-8: J.Donlon, M.Scott; U-10: N.Walsh, M.Ruane, G.Ruane; U-12; J.McAndrew, G.O’Brien, A.Scott; U-14: T.Scott; U-16: R.Lang; Minor: D.McCloat. Other names will be added to the list in due course. It seems to be very much a case of love is in the air for club players at the moment with two engagements recently. Former club underage player Elaine Howley and fiancé Ted Kilgannon announced their intentions to tie the knot while Fidelma Mulligan, goalkeeper on our 2012 Jnr C’ship winning side, and her fiancé Michael Hennigan made a similar announcement. Congratulations and best wishes to both couples.

Finally, may we take this opportunity to wish all involved with the club in any way, as well as all our supporters a Happy, Healthy and Peaceful Christmas and a Prosperous New Year.

DRUMCLIFFE/ ROSSES POINT

THERE were six DRP players on the Summerhill College gaelic football panel which reached the Connacht Juvenile ‘A’ league final last Thursday after a 4-14 to 1-6 win over the ‘The Bish’ (St Joseph’s) Galway. The club players involved were: Ciarán O’Reilly, Ciarán Smith, Hugh Keaney, Cian Oates, Desmond Gillen & Ben Kelly.

Well done to all the Sligo GAA personnel who were involved with last Saturday’s ‘Gaelic Voices For Change’ Sol- idarity Sleepout on O’Connell Street in Sligo to raise awareness and funds for homelessness. The event was a big success raising more than €200,000 nationwide. Our end-of-season adult awards presentation will take place in Davis’s Restaurant, Drumcliffe, on Friday Dec 29th at 9:30pm. Our Annual Juvenile Awards night is scheduled for January 20th. Venue and event details will be confirmed soon.

Two of our club members Gemma and Rían O’Callaghan produced fine performances for North Sligo Athletic Club last Sunday at the All-Ireland uneven age group cross country championships in County Waterford.

Gemma finished 4th in the girls U11 race, while Rian finished in a very creditable 33rd place in the boys U13 event.

If you feel the need for exercise over the festive period, there are plenty of local events coming up over the next week/10 days.

The annual Rosses Point Christmas Day swim takes place next Monday 12pm, while the GOAL mile takes place in Rosses Point village on St Stephen’s Day at 3pm.

North Sligo Athletic Club are also organising the Benbulben 5K race on New Years Eve, starting at Oxfield at 12pm.

We would like to take this opportunity to wish all our club members and friends a very happy and peaceful Christmas.
