Somers wins Festive 5k

THE Festive 5K Fundraiser was held on Sunday in perfect running conditions on a lightning fast downhill and flat course. Sligo AC’s Seamus Somers led from the start to finish first in a very impressive new PB of 15:49. North Sligo’s Desie Foley was next in 16:46 with Sligo AC’s James Callaghan 3rd in 17:27. The Ladies race was won by Corran AC’s Sara Doohan in 17:45. Sligo AC’ s Mari Johnston was next in 19:09 with Eimear Joyce 3rd Lady in 21:20. Sligo AC athletes competed very well today on a testing Waterford IT course. In the Novice Men, JP Carty ran excellentl­y and he led out the field before eventually finishing 10th. Michael Morgan is in a rich vein of running form and he was a very creditable 14th in the U17 Boys. Well done also to Joe Campbell who was 54th in the U13 Boys while Ailbhe Morgan was 76th in the U17 Girls. Good running also by former member Rianne McHugh (now Ennis AC) who was 14th in the Novice Women’s race.
