Sentencing adjourned

A judge has adjourned sentencing of a woman for driving without insurance for one year so she won’t lose her licence.

Rhona Murray (28) of Ard Laighne, Coolaney, pleaded guilty last week at Sligo District Court to driving without insurance at Finisklin Industrial Estate on 8th January 2016.

Her defence solicitor, Mr Tom MacSharry, asked Judge Kevin Kilrane to adjourn sentencing to December 2018 to allow penalty points come off Murray’s licence.

He said Murray was the mother of two young children and was currently training at St Angela’s College to become a nurse.

Mr MacSharry said Murray had 9 penalty points on her licence at the moment and the next three were due to come off on 20th December 2018.

“She’s a great mother and will be a great nurse. She lives in Coolaney and commutes daily to college in Clogherevagh, the other side of Sligo,” said Mr MacSharry to Judge Kilrane.

“I know it’s a big ask Judge but I’d ask you to adjourn sentencing until that date,” he added.

Judge said he would agree “reluctantly” to adjourn sentencing in Murray’s case to 20th December 2018.
