Lay in middle of road

-

A man got so high on drugs he was found lying in the middle of the road at Calry by Gardaí.

Michael Feeney (32) of Lisgovey, Calry, was found lying in the middle of the road at Farranacardy, Calry last June 9th at 1.10am.

Inspector Paul Kilcoyne told Judge Kevin Kilrane that Feeney admitted to taking “a cocktail of drugs, including ecstasy.”

The court heard he has four previous convictions, the most recent being for Public Order offences in April 2016.

Feeney’s solicitor, Mr Gerard McGovern, argued that he had addiction problems and had been before the court before due to alcohol.

“He gets better then sometimes comes off the wagon,” he told the judge.

Judge Kilrane said it was very worrying to hear of a 32 -year-old man lying “paralysed on the road with a combination of alcohol and drugs.”

He said Feeney was a danger to himself and a danger to motorists.

“We’re all driving on the road and it’s the fear that we all have of hitting someone and here’s this man lying out on the road...” said Judge Kilrane.

He fined Feeney ¤200 for being intoxicated in a public place.
