The Sligo Champion

Banned for three years

A Castlebaldwin man has been put off the road for three years for drink driving.

57-year-old Keogh Orr of Bricklieve, Castlebaldwin, pleaded guilty to drink driving at the same location on 9th October 2016.

The State offered no evidence to a charge of dangerous driving at Cleavry, Castlebaldwin on the same day.

Inspector Paul Kilcoyne told Judge Kevin Kilrane that Orr tested 80mgs/100mls breath.

The court was told he had one previous conviction but not for a road traffic offence.

His defence solicitor, Mr Gerard McGovern, said Orr lived in rural Ireland and losing his licence would “cost him dearly.”

He told the judge his client lived alone since his mother passed away some time ago.

Judge Kilrane said Orr’s alcohol reading was high and accepted that because Castlebaldwin was a considerable distance away from Sligo town, disqualification “will be hard” for him.

He struck out the charge of dangerous driving against Orr but convicted him of drink driving, fining him ¤200 and disqualifying him from driving for three years.
