Sligo Food graduate secures Bord Bia New York position
A food graduate from St Angela’s College has secured a marketing job with Bord Bia in New York, in what’s seen as a boom time for such graduates.
Ruth Sheridan will start work as Marketing Executive dealing with the US and Canadian markets this January. She described her experience on St. Angela’s B. Applied Science programme as being “a great opportunity for anyone with an interest in the food industry. The combination of food science, culinary arts, lab studies and business, give students skills and knowledge required in any aspect of the industry”.
As part of the IBEC Global Graduates Programme programme Ruth will be placed with Bord Bia while completing a Postgraduate qualification with DIT. “The incorporation of the five month industrial placement on the St. Angela’s course gave me excellent first-hand experience of how skills can be used in a working environment. The job opportunities after the course are incredibly diverse with endless possibilities” she added.
Her former lecturer, Roisin Lydon, said employment opportunities are “very positive” due to a shortage of appropriately qualified graduates. “More and more the Irish food industry needs talented young graduates to create innovative and nutritious food products that will enhance consumers’ lives, both here and abroad” said Ms. Lydon.
“We are very proud of Ruth’s achievement and wish her all the best in New York, where we hope she shines the light on the quality of the food products coming out of Ireland” she added.
