NEW YEAR GREETINGS

Carraroe and District Regenerati­on Associatio­n wish all residents a very Happy and Healthy New Year. We thank all residents who supported our voluntary efforts in 2017 to improve our community and ensure it is a safe, pleasant, tidy place to live and enjoy. We want to thank Sligo County Council Officials and the public representa­tives who gave us assistance and encouragem­ent to continue to progress the developmen­t of our area.

25 CARD GAME

Our Christmas party night of cards was enjoyed by large attendance. Wonderful banter and fun was obvious to all. We were delighted to see so many new faces and especially the young generation playing the game. Some travelled long distances and others we welcomed home for Christmas. The jackpot of €300 was won by Seán Collery/ Anthony McKeown on 12 games. Runners-up on 11 games were Bernadette White/Pat Collery, who won €60. The raffle was a great success with over 20 prizes sponsored by our many local businesses and friends with a large hamper as first prize.

The usual refreshmen­ts were enjoyed after the game thanks to the work of all regular team of workers We wish all our supporters and their families a very Happy and Peaceful New Year.

The next game by popular demand is on Tuesday, January 2, at 9 p.m. We are looking forward to seeing our regular and some new players on the night. Bring a partner but if necessary we can match you up.

GREENFORT RESIDENTS

Greenfort residents’ associatio­n wishes to acknowledg­e with appreciati­on, receipt of €300 funding from Sligo County Council under the 2017 Community and Voluntary General Grant Scheme. The money has been used for a project we undertook, to enhance our ‘Green Area’.

Heathers and shrubs have been planted in the Rockery along the Embankment the associatio­n also wish to acknowledg­e that it has been approved for funding in the amount of €500 from Sligo County Council under the Anti-Litter and Anti-Graffiti Awareness Grant Scheme. This funding is being used to assist with a project we have undertaken to improve the visual appearance of our ‘Laneway’ and Estate. It is our hope these projects encourage our residents to further enhance our area and bring a splash of colour and enjoyment to all our residents and visitors.

SCOIL NAOMH ÉANNA

Thank you to all who supported the sale of work in the School which raised €7,000 for the School. Your support is very much appreciate­d. The ALAG project art competitio­n prizes will be presented in January with the overall winning design becoming our 2018 campaign poster. Thanks to all the students that entered.

If you have any neighbour living alone over New Year give them a call. CHURCH NEWS

Carraroe Church Choirs: Both our parish and Folk Choir are looking for new members. The Parish Choir meets on Mondays for rehearsal and the Folk Choir on Sunday at 11 a.m. If you can sing please join and support our liturgy.

The sick and Housebound: Mass is on 107FM Just tune your radio before Mass. Please let the housebound know about this service in your area.

Parking at the church: People are requested not to park on the public road in front of Church as it is dangerous and obstructs the view of people exiting the car park. There is plenty of space around the community centre and the new parking area at the weighbridg­e.

LAKEVIEW ICA GUILD

The next meeting of the guild will be held on January 8, please note it is on the second Tuesday of the month. The programme for spring term will be discussed at the meeting.

January 6 is known as Little Christmas and the ladies of Lakeview Guild are taking the day off and will meet for lunch in the Riverside Hotel at 2 p.m. We would like to wish all Guilds in Co Sligo a very peaceful Christmas and Happy New Year. Christmas greeting to all Lakeview Guild members and their families and wishing good health to our Carraroe Community in 2018. DOG FOULING

People walking their dogs on Carraroe roads are requested to remove fouling and not to dump into hedges as the plastic bags do not disintegra­te and have to be removed by litter pickers – please bring home and bin. There is an on the spot fine of €150 for such offences. Pooper – scoopers are available free from Sligo County Council.
