As you dig into your boxes of choccies on the sofa, tune in to Sky Channel 212/Free sat 161 to watch “The Irish at Home & Abroad” with Henry McGlade this Thursday 28th of December at 7pm. The programme includes a brief history of the music of South Sligo and also and in particular Michael Coleman. It will be a show of Irish music, song and dance featuring our resident group. Showcasing traditiona­l music at its best from our Wednesday night Summer Shows. Tune in to see some familiar faces.

REELING IN THE SHOWBAND YEARS

Reeling in the Showband Years at the Hawk’s Well Theatre on New Year’s Day with Ronan Collins, Red Hurley, Gina from The Champions, The Conquerors Showband, Dave Lawlor, Keith and Lorraine McDonald, Tommy and Jimmy Swarbrigg, this all-star cast pays tribute to the great showband era. Bringing you back in time to this magical musical period, Reeling in the Showband Years will send you home with great memories of wonderful and never to be repeated time in Irish popular music!

NEW YEAR’S DAY SWIM

The Annual New Years Day Swim will take place again at the Pier Enniscrone at 2.30pm. Organisati­ons/Charities to benefit from the event will be Enniscrone Civil Defence , Grainne Uaile Sub Aqua Club & River Moy Rescue.

NEW YEAR’S EVE GALA DINNER

Celebrate New Year’s Eve at the Draft House in Strandhill with a gala evening. The evening will start with some delicious Draft House cocktails. Enjoy a sex course tasting menu especially created for NYE 2017 by Lee, the Head Chef.

NEW YEAR’S EVE BALL

A New Year’s Eve ball in aid of the Mitchell Sisters will take place at the Radisson Blu Hotel on New Year’s Eve. Jazz musical group, Streetwize will be playing on the night. Get along and support a good cause, while also enjoying some great entertainm­ent - the perfect way to ring in the new year.

GUIDED HIKE

Start the new year on a high and healthy note by climbing Benbulben with High Hopes Hiking guiding you to the Trig and onto Benbulben Head. Meet at Drumcliffe Church large car park at 10am on New Year’s Day. The hike will take 4 to 5 hours to complete at a gentle pace.

7 TURKEYTROT

Run off that Christmas dinner in Grange on Wednesday, December 27th with the 5km Turkey trot. The event begins at the sport complex in Grange at 1.30pm. Fun for all the family. Walkers and runners welcome.
