Man tells court he is seldom off the drink

A man who admitted being intoxicated in public told Judge Kevin Kilrane that he is very seldom off the drink.

Thomas Gilmartin of Shalomar, Finisklin was before the court for an offence at Stephen Street on January 3rd this year.

“I haven’t sen you for awhile. Are you on or off the drink?” - Judge Kevin Kilrane asked the defendant.

“I’m very seldom off it,” replied the defendant.

Judge Kilrane said he was aware of the defendant’s situation.

He fined Gilmartin €50. On leaving the courtroom, Gilmartin wished the Judge a happy New Year.

The Judge wished him well too but added: “Not too happy I hope.”
