President will visit Sligo in April to open new bridge
PRESIDENT Michael D Higgins has agreed to perform the official naming of the Martin Savage Bridge in Ballisodare.
It’s on foot of an invitation from Councillor Thomas Healy on 7 th July last. The Council voted unanimously last year to have the bridge re-named in honour of the Streamstown native after Cllr Healy proposed it. Just last Friday, Erica Hill of the President’s Protocol Office replied to Sligo County Council to say the President had agreed in principle to their “kind invitation” for Friday 20 th April 2018, “subject to the usual requirement of State or other business that may arise later.” The President will arrive at 4pm.
