Row with partner led to arrest

A 52-year- old man was arrested by Gardaí at a shopping centre af ter a falling out with his par tner.

Before Sligo District Court was Jiri Zendl of Rose Cottage, Glenade, County Leitrim who admitted a charge of engaging in threatenin­g or abusive behaviour at Jonston Court Shopping Centre on December 10th. Inspector Paul Kilcoyne told the cour t that Gardaí were called to the shopping centre at 4pm following a repor t from securit y about an aggressive male.

On arrival Gardaí found the defendant heavily intoxicate­d and he was being aggressive to securit y. There was a l arge crowd in the shopping centre at the time. He al so told Garda to “f * * * of f.” He had to be restrained and was subsequent­ly arrested.

Mr Gerard McGovern, solicitor (defending) pleaded that the incident was out of character for the defendant. He had been out with his par tner for drink s and dif f iculties arose.

“He regret s the incident. I don’t think he meant to give the guards that sor t of treatment. He was ver y upset what had t aken place bet ween himself and his par tner,” said Mr McGovern. Zendle was an ar tist who worked with glass he added. Judge Kevin Kilrane applied the Probation Act
