Hitting all of the right notes
SLIGO’S Scór na nÓg champions moved on to the provincial finals on Sunday last as they took part in the Connacht finals in Claremorris Town Hall.
The five different acts were each bidding for a place in the All Ireland finals which will be held in the Knocknarea Arena at IT Sligo on February 17 th. The acts were preparing since the County Final held in November and did their club and county proud on Sunday.
Easkey were performing on song as their Ballad Group and Solo Singer, Amber Jade McDonnell took to the stage. Neighbours St Farnan’s took second place in the Instrumental Music section, narrowly pipped by Achill.
St Mary’s completed Sligo’s line up with Mark Mullen performing in the Recitation/Storytelling section and claimed second place while the club’s Léiriú/Drama Presentation group performed a piece As Gaeilge.
Meanwhile Naomh Eoin recently retained their quiz title and go straight through to the All Ireland final. They were followed closely by St Mary’s in second and Coolaney/Mullinabreena in third.
Sligo’s Irish & Cultural Officer Keith Henry said that all the competitors performed excellently .
“We were so close to getting first in some of the competitions. We look forward to welcoming all the provincial winners to Sligo for the All Ireland and wish Naomh Eoin Hurling club the best in the quiz,” he added.
