After the match, Head Coach Alberto Garcia said it was a great way to begin 2018.
“Great first game of the year for our Sligo All-Stars men’s team that took the win vs LYIT Donegal 94-80.
“In our last game on the 30th December away in Killarney we finished with a great feeling despite the 5 points defeat because with only 5 players travelling we still managed to play a very smart, strong game that we were very close to winning.
“Since then practices have improved so much. “Now we actually have numbers every practice after a number of injuries with the lads working hard.
“All of this plus the addition of our new American player Eric Kittel has make a big difference for us compared to how things were before Christmas.
“We’re happy for the win this brining a welcome boost to team moral. We have had a rough first part of the season but we haven’t give up. We’re back and we are stronger than before now.
“We’re ambitious and we’re going to continue to work hard to get more and better results but our focus is to go on building an culture of respect, discipline and accountability.” Eric’s first game proved very successful and recorded a Triple Double.
The U19s Men’s Team won the North West League beating Ballyshannon Basketball Club, while the U19s Girls were not as fortunate, losing to Ballyshannon. The U15s Boys traveled to Cork to play in the annual John Coughlan Tournament, reaching the quarter finals only to be beaten by Tralee’s Bobcats.
