Operation Transformation starts
Lots of walkers and exercise enthusiasts took part in Operation Transformation events over the weekend. The Sligo Operation Transformation Walk started from JFK Parade and walkers of all ages and fitness levels turned up to step it out on the Sligo walk. The event got underway with an energetic warm up provided by Fitness 4 All followed by a 4K along the scenic Doorly Park walking trail. The event was organised by Sligo Sport and Recreation Partnership who acknowledged the support of all those who ensured the event was safe and enjoyable including the Garda Síochána, Order of Malta, local walking clubs and community volunteers.
A number of events were facilitated over the weekend as part of Operation Transformation. Eastern Harps GAA Club hosted a family community walk in Culfadda while St John’s GAA Club in Carraroe had adults of all fitness levels involved in their Operation Transformation Bootcamp at Cuilbeg while an indoor Pilates class took place at Carraroe Community Centre. Sligo parkrun had a number of newcomers to their weekly parkrun with participants having the option of running or walking the 5K route.
Sligo Sport and Recreation Partnership would be delighted to hear from communities who would like to set up a community walking group with advice and start up funding available. For further details call SSRP at 071 91 61511.
