INVESTIGAT­IONS CONTINUE INTO FINISKLIN FIRE

A fire which broke out in Finisklin on Saturday afternoon caused extensive damage to a tyre fitting premises.

The blaze broke out at Quick-Fit Tyre Services on the Finisklin Road and caused extensive disruption in the surroundin­g area with a large plume of black smoke reaching high into the sky.

The road was closed for a time and diversions were put in place.

Sligo Fire Service was alerted to the blaze at around 1.30pm and three units responded.

Home and property owners in Duncan’s Island and the surroundin­g area were urged to keep their windows closed.

Thick black smoke could be seen from miles away and there was a strong smell from the burning tyres.

The fire was brought under control quickly and there were no reports of any injuries. It is not known what caused the blaze which caused extensive damage to the building.
